It’s Monday night and footballs on! Not just any game though, the Bears and the Packers. And I’m sitting in NW Indiana cheering on the Bears. So why’s a Texas girl rooting for a Chicago team? Well growing up we didn’t have a professional sports team where I lived so I grew up as a Packers fan. Actually a Brett Favre fan. I could just imagine going and wearing a cheese hat cheering on “the man.” When I found out that we were moving to Chicago in 2008, I couldn’t wait to be a cheesehead. Then they traded Favre…I was no longer a Packers fan!
As fate would have it, the building we stayed in was a half mile as the crow flies from Soldier Field. We went to a game that season and love all the history especially “Bear Down” when they score. The flying saucer looking stadium comes alive on game day and you could hear it from the balcony of our apartment. Did you know there’s a 3 second delay between live play and when it appears on TV? It was so awesome to hear big plays happen before seeing it on the screen. Since 2008 the Bears have 2 more fans.
One of my favorite things to have while watching football is this stoplight. Simple in nature: Guacamole, Queso and Salsa, but totally tasty. This has become a staple in our house. It takes only a few minutes to make and is a real crowd pleaser.
So grab a beer and Go Bears!
2 Ingredient Queso
1 lb. Velveeta
1 can of Rotel tomatoes and green chilis, drained
- Cut Velveeta into small squares.
- Over medium heat, place cheese and Rotel. Stir consistently until melted then turn off heat.
- Serve with chips and enjoy! 1439 cal
