My name is Melissa. I’m a Texan currently living in the
bay area of California Austin, TX. Engineer by trade; baker, flower designer and crafter by passion. Since moving to the sunshine Lonestar state, I’ve had a lot of time on my hands been really busy with a new job and our first house.. So I decided to dabble in cake decorating, wine tasting, photography and making sure my hubby stays well fed.
For as long as I can remember weekends and vacations were filled with baking with my mom and grandmother. Growing up with lots of food allergies meant modifying traditional recipes to make them Mel-safe. Although I’ve grown out of most of the allergies, recipe modification is still a big part of my cooking. I often add heat, lots of veggies and opt for lower fat meat when cooking. When it comes to baking, all bets are off – I do whatever it takes to taste good. Oh yeah and I love chocolate!
My husband is Greek and comes from a big Greek family. Family dinners consist of 30+ people lots of good food, wine and Theas (Aunts) telling family stories. As an avid fan and a kind of rite of passage, much of my recent trials have been trying to recreate YiaYia’s (Grandma’s) recipes.
During the day While I’m cooking or crafting, I’m kept company by my amazing rescue pup King Louie. In the morning he can be found hanging out on the patio in the shadow of my little big herb and vegetable garden. He’s always looking for a taste of whatever is cooking and loves to be the center of attention.
27th 28thbirthday past, I am embarking on a yummy journey of food, wine and pastries. I anticipate some delicious successes and some terrible disasters with a ton of fun and learning along the way.
